AMEX Travel booking foul-ups

Back during the Qantus 2-1 sale to Australia, I thought it might be a good idea to take advantage of it and also some freq flyer miles I had with AMEX. First, I called AMEX to see if combining the offer and free miles was possible, they transferred me to the Travel agency, but the connection was so bad we had to hang up, then call again when they never called us back. Before we could get the answer to a simple question about the use of the miles, we had to give all the possible travel info, even though we were not yet sure we wanted to go, just wanted a simple answer. Third call, we were booking La to Brisbane and back from Melbourne, but when we got the travel confirmation back by email two days later, it was only R/t to Brisbane. Of course, by then the sale had ended and they wanted several hundred more to rebook at regular fares.
I have filled out several AMEX forms about the bad service and sent an email but have had no response from AMEX or their travel service. Then the travel people directly billed $76 to my AMEX account. I have disputed that fee although AMEX keeps asking why and I keep asking what were the specific charges for? My AMEX membership ends in March and no way I'm renewing with such unconcerned customer service and incompetence.
