5 Best travel apps? (open)
Compiled (and updated) over 5 years. Open to suggestions, feedback and eye-openings,
1. Here Maps: You can download the maps for most any country, or even the entire world if you have the space, which is great since Google Maps basically sucks for offline usage.
2. uCiC: For finding things nearby to see, checking out crowds and basically interacting with any human being on the planet
3. Wikisherpa+ (cost $1 I think?): For downloading wikivoyage/wikipedia articles for offline usage. I'm not certain if it's the best app or not, it's just the one I happen to use, but there are others.
4. Alltrails: For finding/saving hiking trails. I've only used that one for weekend trips where I live though (US), not for traveling other nations.
5. Eventbrite: This has given me a few pleasant surprises. If you're traveling to a new city, give this a glance and you may find some amazing event you would have missed.
Safe travels,

I have never used any of these. Have never heard of any of them before, either.
The only one that sounds even the slightest bit interesting is the map thing. But I prefer paper maps, since any map looks bad on my cellphone screen. I do agree that Google Maps "basically sucks".

You know, Google Maps lets you download maps for offline use. You're limited in size (100,000 km2 I think) but it's useful when you are in a locale for a while.
Google Maps rocks my face off. I used it off line for Chania and it worked splendidly.

My top 5 would be:
1. Laika Travel - offers 2,000 adventure tours all around the world and has really cool interface
2. Hopper - really good app for flight prices & reminders
3. Word Lens - great for augmented translations!
4. Google Translate - for those drunken conversations with locals
5. Uber - because sometimes its so hard to tell a taxi driver where you need to go in another language...

I literally haven't heard of any of these! haha
If you really want to "map" and save all the places you go and share tips/photos with friends the best app is Traverse. www.traversemobile.co
