What to do in Sao Paulo on New Years Eve
We will be travelling to Brazil from mid-December onwards, and will cover Rio, Iguazu Falls, Salvador and the Amazon. Our trip ends in Sao Paulo, where we are scheduled to arrive on Saturday, Dec 31st. We have most of that day available, and the whole of the next day, i.e. Sunday Jan 1st. Staying in the Jardins area, just off Av Paulista.
Need recommendations on what to see in SP during a weekend, with New Year's Eve being part of those dates. We are not much of beach types or museum types; would like strolling through interesting architectural sites, unusual shopping places, and places which give a good cultural feel. Would love to witness the New Year festivities.

Reveillon is the biggest of all the New Years parties in Sao Paulo and takes place on the Avenida Paulista 2 million gather
for massive fireworks display largest celebration in Brazil.

a must see attraction is Ibirapuera park. You'll not only see locals enjoy the green space and exercising, but the park is also an important cultural hub: it hosts the Bienal building (used for big art and cultural exhibitions; the Museum of Modern Art (it has a very nice restaurant with views to the park), the Oca (another exhibition building by famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer) and Auditório Ibirapuera (a concert hall, also by ON).
Every Dec. 31st there is an international running event called São Silvestre and it has always started and ended in Paulista av. This year the municipality is trying to change the arrival to Ibirapuera park not to gather too many people in Paulista av. area. That's also fun to watch.
As far as shopping is concerned, near your hotel there's the Oscar Freire st. with the top shops in the country, where you can see all the rich and posh Brazilian going for shopping. For something more unique, head to Benedito Calixto square where you'll find an antique/handcrafts street fair along side with several design shops.
NY celebration at Av. Paulista (huge crowds) or some party in a private club your hotel front desk may know of.
