whale and dolphin watching in Lima

Hi everybody,
I am planning a 3-week trip to Peru starting mid May and I read that one can do whale and dolphin watching in Lima or close to Lima. However, so far I found only one organisation that is doing these boat trips - http://nature-expeditions-peru.com/ and they are a bit expensive. Does anybody know them, can anybody recommend them or some other organisation? We wouldn't mind paying such price if the money goes to an NGO or a good cause.
I am travelling with my boyfriend and we usually try to avoid joining big groups or very touristy places, we like to enjoy nature & wild life on our own.
thanks for the help!

If anybody wants to go dolphin watching, swimming or diving with sea lions, or birding, I can highly recommend Nature Expeditions! We just had a really amazing trip with them yesterday, the highlight of our vacation in Peru so far.
We saw about 80 dolphins who were very happy for the visit, were playing with us, bow riding and jumping in the waves, putting up a real show for us!
And the best part is that the money from these trips goes to a marine conservation NGO, Mondo Azul. You can read here more about the NGO founder, Stefan Austermühle, who is truly dedicated to nature conservation: http://nature-expeditions-peru.com/a...n-austermuhle/
I"ll be back with a full report at the end of the trip

When you get around to your full report, can you give us more info, such as how you got to the boat? Do they get you from your hotel or do you get to the dock on your own and if so, where is it?

Didn't see that info on their website.

Did you go once or more than once? Did they mention anything about the massive dolphin die-off along the shores of Peru that commenced in the last month or so?

Thanks for responding to your question. Can't wait for further details.

With a little more investigating I found how to get there from the website. I like that first option. It must mean a very early departure.

to get to Pucusana:

Book your transport with us: 60 Soles per person (not incl. tax) Lima-Pucusana-Lima (including hotel pick-up): add an extra 3 hours to your trip time.

Public transport: Take a taxi to a bus station for overland busses. Catch a bus that goes south (direction of Paracas). Ask the bus driver to let you off the bus at the Panamerican Highway exit to Pucusana. At the exit you grab a taxi, a moto-taxi or a mini-bus to Pucusana. On your way back you will have to wait at the roadside of the Panamerican highway and stop a bus. You may be able to make your way to Lima and back for as less as 30-40 soles per person if you negotiate well, but there are risks involved (especially when travelling back at night): calculate 3-5 additional hours to your trip time

Rent a car: calculate 150-210 Soles per day + motorway fees and gasoline: add an extra 3 hours to your trip time

Hire a car with driver: calculate minimum 240 Soles + additional rates if you are
staying more than the agreed number of hours: add an extra 3 hours to your trip time.

Hi atravelynn,

We took the first option actually and we were very happy with it - the guys from Nature Expeditions picked us up from our hotel with their jeep, so the ride to Pocusana was quite comfortable. we left our hotel in Miraflores at 6 am and started the boat ride at about 9 - but we also made a short stop for breakfast on the way.
If you need any details, you can ask Carolyn Perkins from NE, she was very fast and thorough in answering our many questions before the trip: [email protected].
We did not ask about the dolphins death along the shores of Peru, but I am sure they know the details...
have a great time with the dolphins!
