Travelling from El Calafate to Torres del Paine, and then Puerto Mont

I am finding conflicting information and would appreciate some help in planning this leg. I am trying to decide between taking a tour one way Calafate-TDP and flying from Punta Arenas to Puerto Mont, or renting a car in Calafate and driving to TDP and back to Calafate and then fly to Bariloche and cross to Chile in the opposite direction than originally planned. What is the driving time and how difficult a drive is it between Calafate and TDP? It appears that if I want to fly to Puerto Mont after TDP, my agent recommends from Punta Arenas and that seems to be another 350 km away. So doesn't it make more sense to go back to Calafate?
