I will be going with a group to Asuncion in late May. We would like to take a side trip to Iguazu Falls from Asuncion. Has anyone been lately? Is a visa required to go into Brazil for a day trip?

Hi tabbyt. I got back recently from Iguassu. Wonderful place but one day is not enough. I was there for 3 days and that was about right. I had a visa for Brazil but I stayed on the Argentinian side and did not need a visa. I found the Argentinian side a bit better, more hiking paths and you can get closer to the falls. Right in them actually. Hope you enjoy yourself in Iguassu as much as I did.
Jim,
Thanks for your reply. I am sure we will enjoy the falls. Everyone who has ever been says it is a must see in that part of the world.

Tabbyt, as you will be in Asuncion you can stay on Paraguayan side rather than bother with visa etc although there seems to be lots of scams where people just walk over to the Brazillian side etc.
I spent Dec 2004 - Mar 2005 in Asuncion. It's one of those places you either love or hate. I loved it!!
Good luck
