Tour company for Manu National Park
Hi,
We are looking to do a 4-day jungle tour in Manu National Park from Cusco in late May 2009. We found this website (Peru Discovery) but haven't found much else in terms of previous experience/reviews by other travellers. Has anyone used/heard of them? Any comments?

Thanks!!!

Hi - I wrote a long post on a couple tour companies and Manu in general that you may find helpful:
Fodors.com > Travel Talk > Latin America > Manu Tour Advice

I have not heard of Peru Discovery, but I will ask my guide friend who will be back from Manu on the 12th. I'm not sure where they fall in the spectrum.
Manu is definitely a great choice!

4mousquetaires - hey I'm sorry I forgot about checking on Peru Discovery for you.
I just sent Rive an e-mail, but he's actually out in Manu right now for a month clearing trails and training guides. I think he'll be back in a couple weeks.
Have you already booked a tour?

I got some information for you. Peru Discovery is a company that has a lodge in the cloud forest and then camps (tents) in the rain forest (remember, it rains often in the rainforest). I can't tell for sure, but I don't believe they go as far as blanquillo. The longer tour just appears to be boating out and then rafting back. This tour is more of the 'adventure' type tour, maybe for young people who want to bike or go rafting in the jungle. You would see some birds and monkeys, but you are not going to have a serious wildlife tour. If that's what you are looking for you should pick one that visits blanquillo or the reserve zone for that. So it depends on what you are looking for whether this is a good choice for you.

I was in Cusco and from there booked a Manu National Park tour on the 19th July. I went with a company called Wild Watch Peru, there are so many companys offering the trips to Manu National Park so was hard to choice which and who to go with. I chose to go with wild watch peru who are located just opposite the plaza de armas because the owner Herbert seemed really enthusiatic about the tour and he was actually going to be the tour leader too for the date i had chosen, he was also from Manu in a little village so i felt confident with this. The trip was 4 days 3 nights and was absolutly amazing we were a group of 5 of us and transport, food and accomodation was fantastic i could not fault it. One good thing too about this company is that they always use local businesses from the accomadation the the hiring out of the boats. The tour is very flexible with doing what ever you want to do and on the last night the group decided we wanted to camp on the river in tents so thats what we did and was unforgetable. I recomend wild watch peru because i had a fantastic time and saw lots of interesting animals and Herbert knew every plant and animal we saw his knowledge was top.
I hope this helps people trying to choose.
