Supposedly, yes, you can do this. The website:
www.machupicchu.gob.pe
is a government site that sells tickets in advance and allows you to pay by Visa. The site says its bilingual, and yet sections (for example the FAQ section that explains the process) are in Spanish only.
I've never done it myself, so I won't vouch for how it works, and I'm not recommending it one way or another. If you try it and have success, report back.

apulodge.com in ollantaytambo.org good info
cheapest to buy the backpacker train there
I have done it cost $29 a couple of years ago
probably more now but did not use an agent at all
saved a tonne a piece of cake both ways.
andeantravelweb.com best non biased general info site for you
Happy Researching!

"Supposedly" is key. I'm not sure it's likely to be a successful venture.
I would just wait and buy them in cash (Peruvian Nuevo Soles) in Cusco or in Aguas Calientes town.
This assumes, of course, that you are not talking about buying them for the 7th of July.

Good website for advance ticket purchases, but I am unable to select a child and a student. It looks I have to select 4 adults only and later, entering age and student card the price does not change, 148 each as for 4 adults

There has been quite a kerfuffle with tourists of all nationalities being affected. Monday there was a protest which blocked the busses as well as chaos at the ticket offices.
Apparently some additional tickets have been added along with a new route or routes for the next few weeks. The website seems to have become completely jammed as news has leaked out.
News report, sorry Spanish only. Hopefully someone more fluent than myself can confirm the details. There is minimal reporting on this in the international English Language press.
