Ten days in Ecuador
Hi there
My wife and I are planning two weeks over Christmas and New Year.
We have done a lot of traveling but never Ecuador.
In reading the forum, it appears that the highlights include:
Otalvo
Napo
Lagos mojanda
Cuenca
I would very much appreciate comments.
We love hiking, scenery, historical towns and good food.
Many thanks

Here is a link to my blog of our last trip which, with the exception of Napo, covers all of those places.
Choosing highlights is difficult but if you are into hiking I would definitely suggest Lagos Mojanda, easily reached from Otavalo. The best place we stayed in Ecuador was there. la Luna, just outside of town on the way to Mojanda - superb! Aim. For the early morning animal market ( on Saturdays it think) if you can - some amazing sights.
Quilatoa Crater lake is also spectacular but quite a tough hike at that altitude.
Another highlight was biking down Chimborazo volcano near Riobamba.
Cuenca is a lovely city great colonial architecture, if a little busy with retired expats. Several great hikes around Parque Nacional Cajas and hour away by bus.
Do check the weather situation in December. We were there in May- June and it was pretty reasonable but I think Dec Jan may be low season.

I've also posted a trip report on Ecuador (much shorter than Crellston's!) - if you click on my name, you'll find it. We were there earlier this year and had an excellent trip. Our trip was in February.
