Hi everyone,
We are a young couple who live in Brazil, planning a trip to Atacama in the middle of November. As we have 8 nights, we thought of doing the following itinerary:
- 4 nights in Atacama
- 3 nights in Bolivia, to visit the Salar de Uyuni
- 1 night in Atacama
We do have a couple of questions and would like to know your advice:
- Which of the following hotels would you recommend in San Pedro de Atacama?
Explora, Awasi, Alto Atacama, Tierra Atacama or Casa Solcor
- Which tour opperators would you recommend to do the trip to Bolivia? I was checking Explora Travessias, but they do not have any availability for this year.
- Any other advice on our itinerary?
Thanks a lot for your help!

Didn't go to Bolivia/Uyuni, but spent 4 nights in San Pedro at Awasi in 2010. I stayed at Explora in Patagonia years before, and found the Awasi experience even better (Explora was great, don't get me wrong). Our guide at Awasi was fantastic (Sergio if I recall), the private explorations were tailored to what we wanted to do and the food was quite good. All of the staff were warm and friendly, and there were little service touches that were just right. In addition, the accommodations and common areas were quite lovely, having a feel of the place that I didn't think the Explora en Atacama offered. It was a fairly short walk into the center of town too, and I liked having that option during our free time.
I considered the other places you listed, and can't remember why we picked Awasi (perhaps it was the private guides), but I still consider it one of the best travel experiences I've had.
Have fun!
