Short Tours Out of Valparaiso

I entered this message on an earlier posting, but realized this is a different topic.

The trip I've been planning with my daughter is coming together, so now we are thinking of day tours out of Valparaiso, and/or even a tour which would include an overnight stay. We are thinking about going to one of the mineral spas, wine tours, and a tour of Santiago, but any suggestions would be welcome. (I noticed some areas close at the end of May.) We'll have ten days to go on a few excurions as well as to visit a student in Valparaiso.

I noticed, Waggis, you mentioned Christian Montenegro when I asked about a taxi from the SCL airport to Valparaiso. Would his Website be a good place to ask questions? We are not planning to rent a car.

You certainly may ask Christian Montenegro for his advice. He offered us a visit to the Casablanca Valley to visit the Emiliana winery as part of our transfer/tour from the port of Valparaiso to SCL airport. Having been to two vineyards in the Colchagua valley previously, we didn't take him up on it.

When I was researching for our trip, I also contacted Michael Arnold "Michael the German Pirate". My mail ended up in his spam filter, which delayed his response. By the time he got back to me, I was already making arrangements with Christian.

Michael comes highly recommended on TA. His e-mail address is [email protected] and you can look at his web site: www.myvalparaiso.cl on which he lists prices of tours to coastal towns as well as valleys. (He speaks English, German & Spanish)

I have more addresses if these 2 don't work out for you.

Do NOT, repeat NOT, use the "German Pirate".

Details here: http://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com/...-the-not-good/

If you would like to add a cooking class to a wine tour, consider this outfit: http://www.cookingclasseschile.cl/chile/

I stayed at the Yellow House, which they run, and did a walking tour of Valparaiso with Boris which was fine.

I don't know if horse riding is your idea of a nice day out but we enjoyed a days riding near Vina del Mar. Organised by our B&B. Also worth doing in Valparaiso is the graffiti trail.
A link to our blog with some hoots etc.

Thank you all for your information. Interesting comments about the German Pirate; I've read many recommendations for his tours, but I will check out a few other companies.

A few minutes ago,I happened to be on another travel site and saw only high grades and positive comments concerning the German Pirate. Thursdaysd, I went to your mytimetotravel.wordpress.com and read your time and experiences in Valparaiso.

We are also visiting a student who is completing her second semester in Valparaiso, so when she is free, we will be with her; she's been there since January.

Is $100 US per person a fair price for a transfer from SCL to Valparaiso?
