Check with the person who invited you. However, it will probably be quite fancy. Brazilian women like to dress up to simply go out to a club or the like in the evening (slinky dress, stilettos, dangly earrings, etc). I have seen women dressed appropriately for the chic-est venue in New York City, but we were in a village of about 5000 in the middle of nowhere in the countryside. And Sao Paulo is a world class city. A wedding will bring out the best the women have. However, depending on the time of year, it could also be extremely hot and humid, so dress comfortably for this.
Whereas Sao Paulo does have art, restaurants and clubs enough for a few days, try to plan to see some other parts of the country as well. With 10 days, Rio, a much more touristic city with much to see, would be easy by overnight bus or plane, or you could go along the coast stopping at Paraty and Ilha Grande on the way.
Have fun.
Thank you Equestrian for the advise.Yes it will be hot 14th January seasons seem to be the same as Perth hot at that time of the year as well . The bride did mention it is a very cocktail type dresses so will start getting my wardrobe together once again thank you jen
