I am planning a trip to the Atacama with my famly. We are considering a stay at either Explora or Terrantai. We have stayed at the Explora Patagonia and found it to be excellent. Friends have suggested that we investigate Terrantai as a less expensive alternative to the Explora. Consequently I would be interested in hearing from anyone with personal experience staying at one or the other of the two lodges. Thanks.

We stayed at Explora July 2004 for 4 nights. Loved it! Everything was excellent. Be sure to do the horseback riding. Terrific horses even if you are not experienced. 12 yr old daughter went on an all day ride and had a blast while we went hiking. Don't know about the Terrantai, but thought the Explora was not overpriced for what we got. Highly recommend staying there. Someday hope to go to their hotel in Patagonia.
Thank you for the input. We have made our reservations at the Explora and we are looking forward to our 4 night stay. One of the reasons that we were considering lodging elsewhere was because Explora has a "policy" that you must arrive and depart on certain days. Those days did not fit into our travel plans. Upon intervention by our travel agent, however, Explora was more flexible than its stated policy.
