My husband I and are tentatively planning a trip to Argentina in November, and we are looking for some itinerary guidance. We have 10 or 11 days (including the day that we arrive, but not the day we depart). We were thinking 2 or 3 days in BA and we would really like to visit Salta. A friend had also mentioned Cordoba, but that is about 400 miles in the other direction, so I am not sure how feasible that would be. We were actually NOT planning to go to Iguazu, but now I am wondering if we would be able to fit that in as well.
Alternately, someone else suggested we fly into Chile (and out of Buenos Aires), take a 1-2 day trip through the lake area and enter Argentina near Bariloche. I think that may be too much to combine with Salta and BA? We were also considering using an agency, which is something that we have never done. I know that distances are vast, and transportation can be tricky there, so any advice and /or travel agent recommendations are welcome.

I thnk u could fit in IF and still do Salta. There's now a direct flight from If to Salta sou don't need to waste so much time traveling. u could do three days in BA, two in If and the remainder in Salta area. IF are incredible and really worth seeing. The Salta region is beautiful and u can spend several days doing a circuit.
I agree that adding chile would be too much and I hear that Bariloche region is still dealin with ash issues.

ARG is easy to plan on your own. airlines to check for internal flights are LAN which has a reduced air passfor domestic travel if u fly international on them. AA is the other airline to check.

We are heading there in two weeks and the logistics to combine BA, Iguazu and Salta are easy as there is a daily flight between Iguazu and Salta. Dividing 10 or 11 days between those three would be pretty much perfect (we are doing 4, 1 and 9 respectively).

Having just returned from a three week trip to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay, I can comment partially on your inquiry. I flew from the U.S. to Santiago, then immediately to Puerto Montt in order to pick up the lakes boat trip from Puerto Varas (where I spent two nights) to Bariloche. After two nights in Bariloche, I flew to Buenos Aires for three nights (weekend, to take in Sunday markets, etc.), and, then to Salta for four nights (had planned on five, but missed my flight). I'm saving Iguazu for next time. Everything went smoothly. I found three nights more than adequate for BA, which I did not care for, although I had a fine hotel and good experiences, and would spend more time in the Salta region. Soon, I'll be submitting my trip report. I have a super-duper private driver to recommend for Salta. ZZ

Adding in Iguazu is easy as there are many flights through the day that go there to/from Buenos Aires. Spending two nights would be enough time to visit the park two days. I didn't go to Salta or Mendoza, opted instead for Patagonia, both extreme south and south/west portion with Chile, so cannot comment on that. But IMHO, Iguazu falls was spectacular and I'm glad that I went and very much enjoyed it.
