Pereu Floodingf

The floods in Peru seem to be devastating. So sad for the people there. We are planning a 12 day trip beginning the end of May. Our destinations are Lima, Arequipa, and the MP area. Does anyone know of resources for up-to-date information on road closures and other travel difficulties that may impact our trip? Thank you for sharing.

From everything I have read (we are headed to Sacred Valley on April 9th), there are no problems in Lima proper and in SV and MP. There were some water shortages in Lima last week but that appears to have all been resolved. TA has a few good threads going about it (under Cusco, Sacred Valley and Lima). The best site I have found for more up-to-date info, especially Arequipa (which I have read may have some issues) is this one from LP:

Apparently the Telegraph posted some photos from the 2010 floods around Machu Picchu which has panicked a lot of tourists.

Be careful what you read on the internets!

If you wish to wade through the Peruvian press you can start with this article and can click on the different regions. But remember that Cusco, Lima and Arequipa are regions larger than the cities they include. So "flooding in Arequipa" could be flooding along the coast.

Here's what the US State Department has to say:

Looks like only Lima may be affected of the places you're planning to go, but if I were planning to go to Peru in the near future, I'd sign up for alerts.
