We return from Ushuaia after an Antarctica trip at 6pm on a Sunday in January. We leave to fly back to Chicago on Tuesday Night at 10:30pm. We will have had 2 days in BA at the beginning of our trip to go back to our favorite places (We spent a week around Easter in BA about 4 yrs ago and took an overnight to Uruguay then). What should we do with our time. I am afraid we don't have enough time to do Iguasu. Thought about Lujan or Tigre since we didn't do that. Are the Estancias real touristy? We're from Wisconsin, so we've seen cattle and horses before and have done dude ranches out west when our kids were young. We're not opposed to trains, car rental or private guides. I haven't made hotel reservations for those two nights until we've made some decisions. Your ideas?

I'd suggest that you purchase DK EYEWITNESS TRAVEL:Argentina. Read what's there that is related to Buenos Aires; devise your itinterary by jotting down your interests in list form; then hire the guide of whom I have the utmost respect based on his expertise displayed while he was my guide on four or five occasions in 2007.
I've written about Marcelo previously and have posted his contact information, but I'll do it again! Marcelo Alejandro Manilla, www.ciceroneba.com.ar info@ciceroneba.com.ar.
Also, I had been to Buenos Aires two years prior to meeting Marcelo, and of the two previously independent guides that I'd had, he, Marcelo, was surely the more outstanding of the other two.
You, as his client, become number 1, and he definitely attempts to please you in all ways. I know he did for me; that is why I am forever recommending him.
If all goes as I hope and am beginning to plan-- Buenos Aires will see me in April of 2010, so will Marcelo for a few of my outings.
Lastly, do include Tigre for a day. My friend and I have done this day trip on our own; I've also done it with a 1/2 day tour. Both times were great, but I liked it more when my friend and I went there. We had more time to wonder and stay at that town where the railroad stops (...superb, inexpensive shopping).
Tigre is a good day trip, no cowboys, lots of water.
Otherwise, 2 days at the beginning and 2 at the end are not much time for BA , even if you have been here before... things have changed since then.. and if you were here for only a week then, you barely scratched the surface :- )
An idea to consider if you do want to take a trip to the Tigre is to stay in San Isidro. We stayed at this wonderful place, Hotel Del Casco. We did not take a trip on the river, but we loved our visit there!
