New Years in Brazil - Where to Be

Hello!

I am new to the forums and am currently planning a short trip over to Brazil from Peru (where my friends and I will be spending most of our time). We are currently thinking about heading to Brazil (Specifically Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo) on December 27th. (A CRAZY time to travel, considering it's going to be so EXPENSIVE!!)

We have no idea what to do aside from the advice to spend a few days in Rio, a few in Sao Paulo and a few in florianopolis. So we're going to plan that out over the next few months based on

WHAT WE DO FOR NEW YEARS?!?!?!

We are hoping to do something amazing that we will remember for many, many years to come.

Do you know of any events that will be happening in any of those locations? (Specifically, Rio).
Are there any good websites that list what will be happening?

Thanks for any advice!!!

NYE on Copacabana Beach is memorable, for sure. Be sure to wear all white clothing.

But if you are looking to witness some traditional rituals that are common around NYE, you should arrive early. Now that the beach is overcrouded on NYE proper, the Candomblé church communities will go to the sea in the days prior to NYE to make their offerings/celebrations.

It is difficult to know exactly when and were...

I think we are definitely going to try to be at Copacabana beach for sure, but everything is looking crazy expensive!!

Does anybody know of any good deals at hostels that they can recommend? I am travelling in a group of 3 and we are hoping to stay on budget.

It looks like a lot of hostels in the area are charging minimum $80 per night!!

The Sofitel on Copacabana would be a nice place to watch the fireworks from. There is a restaurant/bar with a balcony which allows you tosee the entire beach. It will be pricey but you live once.
