los roques, isla margarita, merida

Jump to last reply

How safe are these 2 destinations right now? My daughter is planning a trip to Venezuela in early July. She and 2 friends will fly into Caracas--but catch a bus immediately to the Merida region. (They have a friend who lives there--he says it is safe). (They plan to avoid Caracas).

I just read a scary post about the Merida area, so now I'm a bit concerned. They will also do a trip (partly on mules I think) to the mountain town of Los Nevados.

Then they would like to spend a few days at the beach. Isla Margarita? Los Roques? How easy or difficult is it to get to these places? What might the airfare be? Any other ideas?
