Has anyone been to any of these places in the last five years or so?
I'm looking for an adventure in South America that will offer unique sights and sounds, where my days will be filled with both nature tourism and great people watching and where I won't break the bank but I won't be sleeping with bugs and snakes either!
Anyone have any insight into this trio?
Looking for info on travel to French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname

My reply on this may be a little late but I can provide some insight on Guyana. We were there in 2004. We used Georgetown as our base. We took a 2 day trip to see Kaituer Falls and Orinduk Falls; staying overnight on Baganara Island. We also drove through the rainforest and savannah to Boa Vista, Brazil. Along the way we stayed at Rockview Lodge, which was a fantastic place. If you're still looking for more info, let me know and I'll dig out more details for you.
hi rachael:

i was also there in 2003 and if you click my name you will find a recent post i made to answer a similar question.
in general, if you are female, don;t go wandering either georgetown or paramaribo alone. i would check on the crime pages of the united states state department for recent incidents. it has never been a safe place. french is the most pleasant of the three.
it's hard to find english language info but if you speak dutch or can translate web pages, that should help.
it's one of those places there hasn;t been a lot of info written on. i foud using the lonelyplanet's thorntree to be helpful in booking.
have fun!

sorry for typos. i meant planning not booking. i did not book anything ahead and just figured it out when i got there- that's why you're going though, right, for the adventure?
have you considered some of the beach areas of brazil instead?
sorry fr misspelling your name too!
