Llao Llao vs Villa La Angostura/Correntoso

I have stayed at the Llao-Llao often, but have only visited the Correntoso.

As usual, my vote goes to the Llao-Llao, where it seems there should "be more to do", particularly for a group of eight.

The Llao-Llao has its own golf course (your husband should say he prefers to play the old nine, if possible). I would imagine the Correntoso's guests probably have playing privileges at the nearby Cumelén CC, but I don't know for sure. I suggest you check with the hotel.

LL had the smallest rooms of any hotel that we have ever stayed in. There wasn't enough space in our room to open our suitcases. Otherwise, it was a beautiful looking hotel.

I agree with Jed. I also stayed there and my room was VERY small. Honestly, I didn't really like the location of Llao Llao as it's so isolated. I actually liked Villa la Angostura better. I stayed at:

My view from my room was amazing. I really love Villa la Angostura. Llao Llao does a good job but it's too far out for me.

In Bariloche I like the Design Suites. Get a room with a Jacuzzi and a lake view. VERY romantic! I've stayed several times and they are great. Also, there are more and more people renting out their homes down there in Bariloche and a few companies now offering rentals.

If you settle on Bariloche take a look at Hotel Aldebaran. I loved it. I did go to Llao Llao for lunch and the food was absolutely terrific. Also their on site gift shop offered a lovely selection of leather and woven clothing unmatched anywhere else I went (including BsAs). If you dine at Llao Llao be sure and try their housemade ice cream. Fantastic.

I DO agree that their standard rooms tend to be small.

Just returned from the Lakes District. We were underwhelmed by Bariloche and the small circuit. Too many tourist shops and hotels. Llao Llao is at the end of the small circuit. It's a large hotel that has a beautiful lobby, stunning views and a lot of foot traffic. It is also under renovation because they are adding a new wing. Villa la Angostura is an hour north of Bariloche; it's a small town with a cute Alpine-themed shopping district (one street). There's a recommended hike on the Arrayanes Peninsula from the forest back to town (about 7 miles/3 hours...take the boat to the tip and hike back). Rafting is available in the area, as well as fly fishing (we didn't do either because it was too early in the season). Hotel Correntoso is at the tip of the peninsula at the juncture of two lakes; a beautiful spot but it is along the main road. We stayed at Las Balsas and enjoyed the secluded and quiet location in a protected lake bay. Food at Las Balsas was excellent, as was service. It had more of an intimate feel than Llao Llao. Although we felt compelled to sightsee and participate in activities, we also would have been very content to remain at Las Balsas and not leave the living room and/or spa. It's that kind of place.

Ah, I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. We ended up at Correntoso and it ft our needs perfectly- the room, while small, had amazing views, staff was great, the restaurant onsite was lovely, and we were very pleased with our excursions. Since the property is small, we almost felt like we had the run of the place which was an added bonus!

alg, did you stay in a mountain view/standard room or a lake view room? their website has no pics of the regular rooms...

We stayed there last March (Correntoso, that is), in a lake view room, it was quite nice, little sitting area when you come in, nice bathroom, really comfortable bed and the patio (which we lived on)had awesome views. We were quite pleased (and we have stayed at the Llao Llao too). Plus, the spa is very good too. We really enjoyed our stay in VLA.

thanks for the info, owlwoman. those rooms do look really beautiful. feb is high season, and the prices are super $$$ so we were considering a mountain view room. we were thinking we would really like to take advantage of the amenities in the hotel, so maybe a mountain room would be fine. the strange thing is, ALL the photos on their website are of the Lake View and Junior Suite rooms... that makes me a bit nervous and everyone here seems to have stayed in the lakeview rooms. hmmm.....
