Latin Destination Company

My husband and I are planning a trip to Machu Picchu and Rio this May. After researching the prices of flights, Latin Destinations gives up the best prices. Has anyone used this company before?
We are planning on booking our flight from US-Lima and Rio-US on our own. We are hoping to hear good reviews about Lat Dest. Here is our rough travel plan:

Day 1 arrive late in Lima, night in Lima hotel
Day 2-6 Stay in Cuzco, explore Machu Picchu
Day 7 travel to Rio
Day 8-15 Rio

latinamericaforless.com better reviewed on the boards than LD
Might shop around a bit but do not expect too much and you will not be disappointed. Complaints I hve seen low quality hotels guides and bait and switch on hotels. I always pay with CC never wire money several of the cheapos have gone bankrupt lately.

I would do a google search on the companies because even if someone recommends them they may not be good companies. Be savvy and do your own search and contact them. The price doesn't make it a better solution.

We used Latin Destinations for a trip to Peru two years ago. They were a wonderful company to work with. All our guides and tours we took were great, as were all the hotels we choose from their extensive list. We (four of us) would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to others. The price they charged, which we felt were very reasonable, was well worth the money. The only thing I would not use them for is transfers from the airport to the hotel. We found that we could do that ourselves and save a considerable amount.

We made reservations to Costa Rica this winter through Latin Destinations. Be careful as to what they promise and send to you. In Arenal volcano area, we had booked 3 cottages for 2 nights in a nice spa and we got our confirmation and vouchers for it. But they had booked us for only one night. We had gone out sight seeing and came back in the night to see that our rooms were no longer ours and we were stuck with no place to go as it was the Christmas vacation. Calling them did not help. After 5 hours of trying to find alternate accomodations, finally the hotel was kind enough to get a small spare room for us to spend the night.

Although Latin Destinations promised us compensation for this, after making numerous calls, Latin Destinations and their parent company Solar tours still have not got back to us.

Based on our experience, we will never use them again. Avoid using them if you want a hassle free vacation.
