Are you looking for a Portuguese for Foreigners semester at a university or are you hoping to find a private language school? PUC in Rio has a good course if that's what you want. There's also some school in Rio associated with an orphanage, whose program people sometimes post about liking, but most private language school programs are not good. The only good teacher I know personally is in Salvador.

Salvador IS great. But just FYI, July is likely to be rainy there, and only beach weather between downpours.
It is also a month of vacation for a lot of Brazilians, so it is high season in many popular places. Most universities and some private language schools may be closed for vacation.

Thanks for the warning. I looked up the weather, but that's the only time I can go especially because I'm taking a course later in July in Sao Paulo.
That's OK. I'm not so into the the beaches, more interested in the local culture. I did hear from Sheila and she said she has classes during the time I want to be there. I think it'll work out. Thanks a lot for your help.
