We want to be a bit outside of the city, (less busy, quieter) so we're not interested in Ipanema or CopaCabana. Can you tell me about the Sheraton Barra Hotel or the Barra da Tijuca area?
Info on Sheraton Barra Hotel?

I have never stayed at the Sheraton in Barra but I have been to Barra da Tijuca a few times. My opinion of Barra is that it is more of a residential area with many apartments lining the beach area and side streets. Also it is famous for its malls, to me it is sort of a mixture of Long Island/New Jersey/Miami beach because it is situated on a very nice long beach. Not many tourists will be there as compared to Ipanema or Copacabana. If this is what you are looking for then it is perfect for you. The people who you will mingle with in the malls and restaurants are more of the middle/upper class Brasilians who have families and good jobs.
