Hiking Tour Companies - Machu Picchu & Chile

My husband and I are spending a month in South America between February - March 2018. We want to join a hiking group to do Machu Picchu and then hikes in Chile. Has anyone used a fantastic tour group that they would recommend for either of those trips? We are young couple (early 30s) who are avid hikers so perfer to not be with super slow groups.

Thanks!

So far you are planning a 1 month hiking trip over the same period in . . . Japan, Nicaragua, Peru, and New Zealand . . . Though I think one of those might be in April. Just curious, are these 'real' trips?

This website is a pretty good resource fo checking out hiking operators in Cusco. If you want to do the tradional Inca Trail then book as far ahead as possible. Other treks are say enough to organise on the ground in Cusco. Ask lots of questions of the operators before deciding.

Miguel Jovens, the guide we hired back in 2008 for The South American Explorers Club Sandy died in a rock fall a few years ago. Not sure if the Club still exists but they were also a great source of information and worth joking for the access to clubhouses, discounts etc. try googling them.

Can't help with Chile as we went DIY for the most part. Not sure whether it's would be too late for hiking the W in Torres de Paine at that time of year. The area around Pucon is great fro hiking and many can be organised on the spot or just DIY with guide book/ map etc.

Make sure you research whatever company you use as some treat their porters much much better than others. Some companies exploit their porters, while others treat them with respect. I used Llama Path to hike the Inca trail. They provided their people with enough food and good shoes/gear.
