Has Argentina stasting charging an entry tax/fee yet?

I am leaving for Argentina in less than a week and wonder if they have started collecting the new entry fee or tax for US citizens?

My son just returned from a two week stay in BA and he was all prepared to pay the entry tax but it hadn't been implemented as of yet.

We all await pronouncements from the resident expert porteno, Avrooster.

Until he says it's real, consider it to not to be true.

It was supposed to go into effect on March 1, but I have not seen any details on any government web site. I am hopeful that no news means a delay, as I arrive on March 6.

We are planning a trip to Argentina in mid-April. Assuming the tax may be implemented by then, does anyone know the amount and how it needs to be paid (cash, US dollars, credit??)And I assume it will be paid at the airport if you fly in. Is that correct?

Many thanks

I was under the impression that this so-called "entrance fee" was similar to a visa and would be valid for five years. I obtained my information from ITG International Travel News, a reputable travel magazine.

My friend and I plan to journey there in October. He called the embassy, I presume, the US one and was told that one would not need one.

So, my advice would be to carry the fee of $130.00 as well as a cc and pay it if it has been instituted by the time of your travel.

For one's airport tax, it can be charged or paid in pesos upon your leaving the country.

I've been a little out of touch, but I'd say soulskier and the world-famous drdawggy are correct.

Although this question dates back quite a long time I thought I would take the time to answer it as it comes up first when enquiring about charges into Argentina.
All US Canadian and Australian citizens are charged an entry fee. In the case of the USA, it is 131.00 USD and valid for ten years, Canada $70 USD and valid for one entry only and Australia it is $100 USD and valid one entry only. Beware if you are a Canadian or Australian when travelling near the border regions. You may find it a very expensive experience

Surely the reciprocity fee is only charged when flying into Ezeiza on an international flight? So crossing land borders or taking internal flights should not be a problem for Australians and Canadians. The fee for US citizens is now US$140.

Sorry, if you are an American flying into EZE from the US then say, to Brazil then to EZE.. you are going to pay the fee.
Internal flights going to and from Jorge Newberry are not being charged, but then, they are closing that airport for improvements and ALL flights will be coming in to EZE.
I am not sure when and no idea if fees will be charged to those flights also.

In May of 2010, I traveled to EZE, and in the area of Customs-- one has to go to a booth and pay the fee for the visa which is good for 10 years. I charged the fee but cannot remember the amount, so I'll accept what Huentetu mentioned in the preceding post!

Does anyone know if you use your credit card for the reciprocity fee if it's counted as a cash advance? We always pay cash for the departure tax in Costa Rica for that reason.

We used our CC and it was a regular CHARGE, not a cash advance.

Just curious on how this might play out. We will cross the border on land into ARG from Chile 2 times. After the final land crossing we end up with us be flying from El Calafate into BA hopefully into Jorge Newberry which should be reopened by the time we do this. I know as of now if we go into JN there shouldn't be a recipority fee, but if we end up flying in EZE will we NOT be charged 'cause we've already entered ARG elsewhere? Any guesses or real life experiences?? thanks!

Thanks, Marnie - glad to know the fee was regular charge, not cash advance.

yestravel, you are only charged at EZE if entering on an international flight. You are not charged at AEP if entering on an international flight (Uruguay, Chile, Brazil etc). That is the normal difference. It should not matter that you might have to fly into EZE as it is a domestic flight and you will not go through passport control.
