We are thinking about taking our 20 and 23 year old boys to the Galapagos but from all of the threads I have read it doesn't sound like there are many people their age on the cruises. We don't expect there to be a lot but would prefer a more diverse age group for their sakes. Maybe a land-based trip would be the better option? Any insight, observations, experiences with this would be appreciated.

There was at least one family on our Xpedition sailing with their young adult kids (recent college grads), and there were several younger couples as well. If you have not already done so, go to the TripAdvisor Ecuador forum and post your question there ... I'm guessing that some of the smaller boats might have a younger clientele if you think that's going to be an issue; it didn't seem to be a problem for the younger people on our cruise.
You might consider the sister ships Eric, Letty, Flamingo, operated by Ecoventura. These 3 tend to sail together and the agency often groups travelers into similar age categories on each ship--one for those with younger families, one for older adults, one for younger adults. The boats get good reviews.
