Football jerseys in Salvador, Bahia
i'm currently in the Barra neighborhood in Salvador and have had a friend request that I purchase an away jersey for Esporte Clube Bahia. Is there a particular store in Shopping Barra that anyone recommends for purchasing an authentic jersey? Costs? I'm still very unfamiliar with the stores as i haven't had a chance to do much shopping
Also if there are recommended places for a wide variety or assortment of Havianas at a decent price, I would be so grateful!

The fact that anyone wants a Esporte Clube Bahia shirt is astounding. They are clearly fans of standup comedy rather than football supporters but there's no accounting for taste....
If you head down to Comercio there is a strip of sporting shops that runs along R. do Corpo Santo. Easiest way to get there is to take the plano inclinado down from Praça da Sé and turn left when you exit. Alternately you could take the Elevador down and walk there. The shops have a large selection of shirts, some 'official' some, knock offs, take your pick depending on price. Costs for official shirts range from R$80,00 through to circa R$140,00 depending on shop/club etc. Knock offs go for anything from R$40,00 upwards Personally I would pay R$5 for the shirt your friend wants but horses for courses. ;-)
The other alternative is to shop along Av. Sete in Centro, there are usually a selection of camelos beyond Praça da Piedade selling knock off shirts. I doubt your friend would notice.
Good luck and do tell your friend that to wear the shirt as it was meant to be worn, he needs to imagine Bahi on the field and recite a rythmic chant that runs something like this:
Porra! puta que pariu! merde! nos perdemos de novo! ai caralho! de novo!

haha I take it you are a Vitória fan? My friend has played football all his life and lived in Salvador for some time around 15 years ago before returning to the states. His favorite team is Bahia--and unfortunately for my wallet he prefers (and can recognize) the real thing lol
All the same--thanks again for your help! I have loved my time in Salvador (and Rio de Janeiro--though I'm not sure how you may feel about that!) the past two weeks. Your country is absolutely beautiful and I am already discussing plans to return early next year!

My pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and do return again.
As it happens along with the rest of my family I'm a flamengista and I alos have a great love for Rio, my wife is a carioca.
I must confess that I have half heartedly supported Bahia, once in my life, if only for 90 minutes. I saw them play Fluminense a few years ago at Fonte Nova but that was more an 'enemy of my enemy is my friend'/ win-win situation.
You don't see them often these days but a few years ago a popular local souvenir were mobiles of two figures painted in opposing football shirts, which you could hang from the ceiling with one inserting a stick into the others behind. You could buy them in all kinds of rival combinations but the most popular ones were, naturally, Vitória and Bahia. Might make an unusual gift for your friend.
Take care.
