My daughter tells me she has no power and no water...I guess that means for cooking and showers!

She e mailed me, so that means the cell phone is working right? I'm a bit technically challenged as to which gadget you use for which function.

She also said they are compelled to drink wine because the water is off! She is wondering if the new Pope can have a word to sort the mess out.

Could be cell, could be iPad if she has one. Any gadget that runs off batteries instead of/as well as mains. Only as long as the batteries last, of course.

Do you get hurricanes in Texas? This is the kind of thing we worry about in NC in hurricane season, in fact I'm signed up for a class on severe weather prep next month.

Yes we get hurricanes. Last big one was Ike in 2008. It decimated Galveston and hammered us north of Houston but as we are about 100 miles inland, we survived. Nothing major since. These things don' t bother me unduly, probably blase after all those years in Japan with lots of typhoons and even more earthquakes.

We are fine, thursdaysd, but some areas were terribly affected, as you know.

Glad to hear you're fine, avrooster. Much sympathy to those who aren't.
