First time in BA

Prior to a trip to Antarctica, we will be in BA for 3 days, arriving on a Thursday morning and leaving for Ushuaia on Sunday morning. I realize this is a very short time frame, but we would like to see as much as we can of the "must see's". Our interests include music, art, local culture, food, and flea markets. Any advice is appreciated!

We plan to book our hotel with IHG points so our choices are the Intercontinrntal on Moreno Street or the Holiday Inn Express in Puerto Moderno. I had read a review that the Intercontinental was not central. Thank you in advance!

Take one of the big open bus tours first .. that way you can easily see many areas and neighborhoods that you probably would not manage to get to or want to spend that much time in but they are good to see, like Boca.
In 3 days you can try to see a couple of neighborhoods a day .. Recoleta is next to Palermo .. Palermo Soho is next to Palermo Botanico .. Retiro is next to, sort of .. Recoleta ... then there is Puerto Madero which is close to San Telmo.
Read everything you can about the areas and decide where you really want to visit and don't waste time. A flea market is a flea market .. not something I would consider a must do/must see in BA.
Sundays in San Telmo would make you happy. But you will miss that. So instead of looking for things you especially like to do .. you maybe should just concentrate on getting to See the place .. I gues you are staying in Puerto Madero .. so you will be close to San Telmo. Go there first .. it is lovely and charming. I don't think either of the hotels is "central" but that is what taxis are for.

Hi FouGras - Friday afternoon at the new Centro Cultural Kirchner museum might be right up your alley. Check their calendar for free music events, in addition to the art exhibits they have going on.

NPR just did a great write-up about it.

I would definitely spend an afternoon at the Recoleta Cemetery. That was the highlight of my time in BA.

Have fun!

lostworld ... isn't it funny when you hear yourself say that the highlight of a trip was a cemetery ? lol I said that when we came back from our last trip to Paris and we had spent the day at Pere Lachaise Cemetery : )
