Does $2500 r/t for two adults from Los Angeles to Lima in December seem about right? I'm wondering if I should book now or wait to see if the rates drop.
I am currently planning a 2 week trip to Peru so I'm sure there will be more questions to come.

That sounds a little expensive.
From Washington DC to Lima, a roundtrip flight is about $600-$700. I'm planning to travel next June 2010, and I already bought my tickets last October to get the best price. My roundtrip flight cost $370 (with one stop in Panama City).
That's what I was thinking but I can't seem to find anything cheaper. I guess the fares doubled due to the holidays (we're traveling from 12/14-12/28). Thanks for the input!
www.copaair.com LAX LIM via PTY
has FLEX fares on those dates
from $4-500 each way $1100 total all in
might also check www.taca.com www.mexicana.com
good web specials too sometimes...Happy Hunting
I'm sure it is to do with the holiday period.
You might play around with the dates a bit.
If all is the same I would go with LAN, it's nonstop and you can possibly save on the internal airfares using their South America airpass.
Another thing I would look into, if you can get the fare all the way to Cusco (LAX to CUZ) you will save several hundred by not having to buy the internal airfares.
