Cusco airport to Ollantaytambo transportation question

We are flying from Lima to Cusco and then going directly to Ollantaytambo where we have booked our rooms. Can I get either a collectivo or taxi right at the Cusco airport or do I have to go into the town of Cusco first? Is there a specific taxi stand or place to meet the collectivo? Also, can you give me an idea of the cost? We are arriving on a Sunday morning, if that makes a difference.

Thank you. I appreciate your help!

We just left Ollantaytambo where the going rate for a BOOKED taxi back to Cusco was 120 soles ( 180 soles if you want to visit places along the way. I imagine the journey from the airport would be about the same. Your hostel in Ollantaytambo should be able to pre arrange for one to pick you up from the airport. There used to be a few scams with airport taxis so that would be the safest option.

There is no real reason to go into Cusco unless you want to save money by getting a collectivo. Ours cost 10 soles pp and was both quick and comfortable, although they do leave on a "when full" basis. We had quite a job finding the collectivo stop as it was shown in a completely different placeon the city map! We eventually found it on Calle Pavitos, which is between Belen and Av Grau, 3 blocks West of Av El Sol. I guess most taxi drivers would know where it is but would want to take you themselves!

TIP if returning to Cusco you can go by collectivo but most will drop you at Urumbamba ( 1.5 soles) where you change for Cusco ( 4 soles). We were approached by several taxi driver hanging around the collectivo stop by the market who, keen to secure a fare back to Vusco were offering rates of 80 soles, I could easily have bargained this down to 50 soles.
