Cost of Taxi from Cusco Airport to Ollantaytambo

Haven't found the answer thru my searches. How much should a taxi cost from the airport to Ollantaytambo in the middle of the day in May? Appreciate it.

In Aug 2008 we were stayed in Olly for a month and travelled to Cusco several times. We paid 50-60 soles one way but you do need to bargain to get a decent fare and DO NOT let the driver stop to pick up anyone along the way! (make it clear that you are hiring the whole car). It is pretty straight forward to get a bus but you usually have to change in Urumbamba.(I think the fare was around 10soles.

Probably around $25 US from the airport (taxis from inside airports tend to be more expensive). If a hotel arranges a pickup for you it could be $45 to $50. Cusco airport is just a little bit crazy (as compared to Lima airport) and I think there is better regulation of taxis in general around Cusco. I would be okay with hiring a taxi at the airport. Although it is always nice to have your name on a placard waiting for you.

Thanks, Yes the hotels are quoting around $45 and a private driver $55! I do understand they have to return return empty - maybe. I guess we can try it and if I can't bargain I can always pay the $45 that the hotel would have charged. It does make sense that the hotel would get their commission for arranging.

I think you will be fine, sounds like you are traveling with someone so just have one of you keep the eye on your luggage and the other do the bargaining. Be sure to agree that the price is for everything. (I've read some people have drivers that try to hit them up to pay for gas!) Pick a nice looking car or van and an older driver..not one of the "Ticos" with 20ish drivers... which they probably aren't letting into the airport anyways!
