Colombia, Safe Travels from Cartagena to Santa Marta Area
We are an experienced traveling couple (just returned from Israel/Jordan) but are wanting a couple...one who speaks Spanish (travel newbies) to join us on a trip to Colombia. Unfortunately, the US State Department has a strong warning about traveling the highway between these two areas and we only have a short time to visit. We don't want to put our friends in any sort of danger, although we are risk takers....any thoughts on how to travel between these areas and which form of transport might be best. Or should we find another destination (Guatemala, Belize), etc. that might be better right now.

We were there 2 years ago. We took a shuttle through Marsol. Not sure how to contact them because the owner of the B&B made the arrangements for us, but it was perfectly safe. I'm not sure why the area would be considered dangerous.

Like Susan, we also used some local shared van like transport to go from Cartagena to Santa Marta, also arranged by our B&B.
I remember something like $60 for both of us - which jives with Susan's note in her trip report more or less of $25 each. But note that it was 3 years ago when we were there! I'm interested too now because we've decided to go BACK this year!!
