Car rental El Calafate and drop off in Chile
Hi
Just staring to organize the Patagonia post cruise itinerary for January 2017
Part of the planning depends on: (!!)
1. Can we pick up a car in El Calafate and drop it off in Chile? I think you can pick up in Chile and drop of in El Calafate. We will head out to Torres del Paine after El Calafate etc However I must start the trip in Argentina
2. I just found out-I think- that you can fly from Puerto Natales to Santiago-is that true
3. How is the driving in the region...We have driven extensively in northern Argentina for two weeks-including Ruta 40_interesting Argentina is spectacular
Thanks
Sandy

You cannot rent a car in one country and drop it off in another. It doesn't matter which country you are renting from and which you want to drop it in. The papers you need to cross an international border will name the driver and the same person must return the car to its origin. The Argentine customs are particular sticklers on this.
Flights to/from Puerto Natales should start in December but not every day. Book well in advance to find a seat and get the best price.
The roads are fine. Not all are paved but they are in reasonable condition. If you drove Northern Argentina you shouldn't find it any more difficult. The only added factor is the wind, which can be extremely strong.
