can TA's in Argentina get better prices on air tickets?

I would like to fly from Buenos Aries to Iguazu Falls for a few days after a Cape Horn cruise in Feb. 2018. I will make my own hotel reservations. I am seeing airfares of over $400 RT bought online from a US based computer.

Would a travel agent in Argentina get a better price on these tickets? I understand the local airlines price tickets far less for locals than visitors. Can anyone recommend a good and honest agent who can provide this service?

Some of the lowest fares are probably restricted to Argentina residents.

You might be able to go on to the Aerolinas Argentinas website and see what kind of fare pops up if you do a test booking. Enter the correct info on your nationality.

Also check to see if you have AA/One world miles can you use them on the LATAM flight.

Another option if you have time is to apply for a LANPASS Visa credit card from USBank which comes with a 15000 mile bonus. The LATAM awards are best used on roundtrip internal flights. Even with buying extra miles I often come out ahead.

I don't know one and I doubt they could do better. Argentina and several other SA countries operate a dual pricing structure i.e. Foreigners pay more than residents which pushes prices up.

We booked on Expedia for those flights and paid far less. I suspect because I booked way in advance.

I checked and, at the moment Expedia come out at circa $350 for a weekday mid month flight. Aerolineas Argentinas about the same. More for a weekend or earlier in the month. If your dates are fixed, I would book now - fares will more than likely rise closer to the time.

Even if you book elsewhere, it is worth calling AA and registering with them as a member as then you will be advised of flight changes. Ours changed with alarming regularity. The last time was when we were on the way to Iguazu airport and they brought the departure time forward by 30 mins or so. Good job I am paranoid about getting to airports early

Great advice above.

You COULD get away with buying a cheaper ticket by posing as a local resident, but I wouldn't advise it. You might not be allowed to board the plane.

Have a great time in my country.

I wonder if because at the tail end of a cruise you are seeing the cheapest fares sold out already to others wanting to do the same? If you go to the AA website that would show which seats are left. If so can you shift it a day later and get a better price. I'd let others advise you on whether the flights run on time better on one airline or anohter.

Both Latam and AA offer smartphone apps that are very useful in keeping track of and checking in on your flights once you have them booked.

I was unable to purchase AA tickets online from the US, but was able to get LATAM tickets to the Falls (although I went only one way). In-country flights aren't inexpensive (yet) in Argentina.

You can also use Delta miles for Aerolineas Argentina flights.
