If I had just one night in Buenos Aries, I would have an early dinner at Aldo's and, then, walk two blocks down the street to El Querandi for the tango review. It will arrange your transportation back to your hotel after the show, if you ask when you make your reservation. That means, the staff will either ask the driver of a tour bus (lots of tour groups come here, but don't let that deter you) to drop you off at your hotel or it will call a taxi for you. See my trip report under "Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay." ZZ
I with zambezi - a great steak, a bottle of Malbec followed by a tango show - we only went to Cafe Tortoni for the tango show, small and intimate and one of the iconic places in BA. http://www.cafetortoni.com.ar/
I agree with Crellston, and would recommend Don Julio in Palermo or El Mirasol in Recova or El Establo in Centro...for a great lunch meal (proveletta for appetizer then Steak - you might want to order 1/2 portion if you are alone) - and then the evening Tango Show at the lovely Cafe Tortoni (I suggest the Upstairs Tango show---les chat, unless you speak Spanish, then downstairs---). And then just meander around OR take a Taxi to drive you around to some of the major sites - just for a quickie view.
Enjoy yourself.
