hi…I'm going to BA in Jan. Does anyone know of a good local tour guide? I'm still just getting my info together, so I'm open to walking, being driven or public transportation.

A very reputable and professional tour guide who has quite reasonable rates is my guide Marcelo Alejandro Mansilla whose web address is: www.ciceroneba.com.ar, info@ciceroneba.com.ar.
In 2007 and 2008, this young certified guide honored my self-selected itinerary plus enhancing it by making suggestions, etc. He went about and beyond his expertise in his degreed profession and provided me with the utmost of skills and professionalism.
Marcelo has a great personality and holds his clients in high regard by enabling them to enjoy and engulf themselves in the Argentine culture, etc....
(I've recommended him previously on this site.)
As far as I know, Mr. Mansilla is in no way related to the Cicerones de Buenos Aires organization, which provides free tours, offered by volunteers: http://www.cicerones.org.ar/index_eng.php?newLang=eng
Have a great time in our country, nkrskr6.
I second avroosters recommendation of The Cicerones.. free tours, tailored to your taste and wishes.. www.cicerones.org.ar
I had a great experience with Liz Flores, who took me to the obligatory tango show near the end of my BA trip. I wish I had contacted her much earlier. She is knowledgeable, very accommodating, and really pleasant company.

We had a very good experience recently (2009) with a tour guide recommended by a friend. She made several suggestions and we selected what we wanted to see. There were five of us and we did not have a car. She was very good at planning and very careful of our time. We were amazed at how much we were able to do in one day, though I would be glad to spend another day seeing the city with her. She is very animated and interesting and provided a lot of history and information about each of the places we saw. Contact at virginiapanetta@yahoo.com.ar
No, Marcello is strictly an independent, certificated guide with A+ expertise and very reasonable fees which I did NOT mind paying based on what he rendered.
I hope to be in Buenos Aires in April 2010, and although I now feel quite comfortable in being in the city (as a non speaker of Espanol), I do plan to seek the services of Marcelo on some occasions while I am there!
(I volunteered to write this on my own; I relayed to Marcelo when I was in his country and city that I would promote his expertise based on what he did for me. I have yet to write a lengthy recommendtion for him and have it printed in INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL NEWS (ITN) a wonderful travel magazine which is published in Sacramento, CA-- covering world travel.
