We are hoping to fly into La Paz from the US, and then go on to Lake Titicaca on the Peru side - Puno. From there, we'd like to go to Cusco and Machu Pichu, before flying home from either Lima or La Paz.
I have found some information about a bus (or train?) from La Paz to Puno. Can someone confirm this and direct me to where there is more info? Also, is it true a hydrofoil will take one all the way from the Bolivian side to the Peruvian side?
And then, how do we get to Cusco? It seems silly to fly to Lima and then to Cusco.
Obviously I am not too familiar with this region, and I appreciate any help very much!

Hi there. I haven't traveled to the region myself but I looked at a number of options while planning my own trip and wanting to do a similar open jaw journey. Here is what I found.
There appears to be a hydrofoil from LaPaz that takes you to Copacabana in Bolivia from where you can visit Islas de la Luna and del Sol [the sun and moon islands] that are important in Inca culture. From Copacabana, there are guided tours via buses [~$35/pp] that will take you across the border to Puno for more time on the Lake. Alternately there are buses from Lapaz to Copacabana and you do the same thing from Copa.
From Puno, you an fly to Cusco [from Juliaca, a nearby city] or you can take the train or the bus. I've opted to try the bus - there's one that takes about 8-10 hours but it stops off at a number of sights along the way. I believe its about $20pp.
Again, i want to say that I HAVEN'T traveled to this area. I just wanted to help out to give you some direction on where to look! I just posted a pretty detailed itinerary asking for comments so you can look to that part of it to get another idea, but there are a number of really good trip reports on the Puno - Cusco - Sacred Valley - Machu Pichu area on this board that will also help. Good luck!
Thanks very much. We have been looking up info, as well, and it looks like we've found the same kinds of things that you have. Also, The Lonely Planet site seems to have more posters on Bolivia than this one does, so you can look there, too!
