Hi, I plan on going to Peru next summer (2017) and I would really like to do a trek. I don't know which one do choose since they are so many.
- I came up with Huayhuash Circuit and Inca Trail, the two that I find the most interesting.
- I have all the time needed.
- We are 2 persons in very good shape, but we don't have any experience in trekking (I only hike small mountains in my region: Montreal, QC, Canada + Do a lot of running).
- I want to have the best experience possible (see beautiful mountains, live an adventure, etc.).
- Budget is not really an issue (just want to have the best bang for the buck).

What trek have you made, what are your opinions, which one would you choose (if you have other trek ideas let me know!)?

We did the Inca Trail in 2012. We trained by hiking up Mont Tremblant a few times. I doubt you would have any issues as long as the altitude doesn't get to you. It takes us 2 hours to get up Le Grand Brule at Tremblant. At altitude it would easily take three hours or more for the same hike. Tremendous experience - especially the cultural aspects of the trip.

If you mean other hikes anywhere (though I think you mean in Peru) consider Jotunheimen National Park in Norway and the Porsmork area of Iceland.

I'm planning on doing Huayhuash in May - as a keen landscape photographer, it offers a lot more than the Inca Trail. A bit like the O circuit in Torres del Paine, or the Manaslu Circuit in Nepal. Also, I believe you can do it on horseback if you feel like a horseriding trip instead.

My main reason for doing the Inca Trail would be to get in from the back and avoid the guards who think 'tripod' equals 'professional' and either won't let you in, or make you pay $300 to be able to take a few good photos.

We haven't done either of those treks. I decided that the Lares to Ollantaytambo trek would be far less crowded than the inca trail and it was, we didn't see any others on the trail ( apart from the local people). This year we did some day hikes out of Huaraz in the cordillera Blanca a few from the Lazy Dog inn and Laguna 69 . Enjoyed it even more than the Lares trek. The scenery was even more spectacular. Also in that area is the Santa Cruz trek which takes in Laguna 69 . Shorter than the Huayhash trek, I think it takes around 3-4 days.

The altitude is likely to be a big factor for most people in any of these treks so make sure you are properly acclimatised over a few days before setting out
