Does anyone know of a suburb or smaller city in the rural area near BA called Rosario? I know there is THE Rosario, but I am looking for what was a suburb or smaller city near BA that was there between 1920 and 1924. Anyone have a lead?
My family moved from Europe to BA in 1920 and was there for 4 years before moving to NYC. I am headed there and if possible, I'd like to track down where they were. I've looked at the old maps from the era, but haven't seen any area called "Rosario" near by. My bet is that it would have been either somewhere out in the country side (an Estancia?) or somewhere in the suburbs along a commuter rail line.
BA suburb called "Rosario"?

Hi, SeattleFlyerGuy!
Welcome to the Fodor's Argentina forum!
Top Internet Argentina expert drdawggy told me about your question.
I told him this is what I found:
http://www.buenosaires.com.ar/historia_por_barrio_de_nueva_pompeya_1.html
http://www.barriada.com.ar/nuevapompeya.htm
http://www.hola-buenosaires.com.ar/pompeya.htm
These links suggest the "barrio" now called just "Pompeya" may have been originally called "Rosario de Pompeya". It seems to have been a quite modest neighborhood.
Besides that, there are probably scores of "estancias" called "Rosario" something.
So, bottom line, I cannot help you much. Maybe if you provide further info?
Further questions about your trip are obviously welcome.
Have a great time in our country, SeattleFlyerGuy!
Another possibility has popped up over on TA....Belgrano R (possibly for Rosario)

Thanks for the reply and for the leads. Unfortunately, we do not have a lot of information to work off of. My grandmother is the only source of information, but she was about 6 years old when she was there and has started to lose her memory. I am in the process of trying to get photos from the old family albums. The only other details that I can think of at the moment is that they were Swedes (if one of these had a concentration of immigrants from Scandinavia), they may have been part of the fur trade while they were there, and there may have been a hill in the neighborhood with something of a view.
Thanks again for the help. I will post any further information I find out, but I know that this isn't much to go on.

Further reading of the above suggest Rosario de Pompeya is a possibility, as it mentions a higher or hilly area and "curtiembre" activity, which could be what you mean by "fur trade".
