ATM's in Argentina
We will be spending 3 weeks in Argentina & 1 week in Chile and are planning to use ATM's for cash withdrawals. Does anyone know if the Cirrus or Plus networks are more reliable. I had trouble with my card in Japan (Plus), but my son's (Cirrus) worked at the same machine. Also, does anyone know how I can find out which bank machines allow larger withdrawal amounts & what the transaction fees are? Thanks so much for your help

Our bank in US (BofA) answered these questions for us regarding our card before we left. They have a netework of banks one can use internationally so that there is no fee (but none in South America). (My dtr in Buenos Aires pays $5 per transaction to BofA).

Most banks now insist that you notify them of where and when you will be travelling BEFORE you travel so make sure you let them now otherwise they may block foreuin withdrawals.
We had many problems with ATMs during our 3 months there and so got into the habit of withdrawing anytime we saw a working machine. Citibank and HSBC proved the most reliable.
