arriving into Rio de Janiero

Hi I had requested our hotel there provide a driver to collect us from the international airport but apparently he is busy.
Can anyone tell me the best/safest taxi service and roughly how much it will cost to Leblon.
Many thanks

In my 7 times of travel to Rio de janeiro, I've always booked through the kiosks which are inside of the terminal. The cost has varied throughout the years, but I have paid no more than $R70 or R$80. <Do a conversion on line to find out the amount in dollars.>

Others have taken taxis that are lined up curb side. If you choose this, get the price first, and make sure that the taxi is metered and that the driver turns on the meter!

IGNORE the guys who are lined up inside of the terminal requesting your business!!

Hope this helps!

PS Consult this website which gives outstanding information: http://ipanema.com/rio/basics/e/

There really is no need to catch a pre-booked taxi, the ones outside the terminal are quite safe. Leblon should cost no more than R$60,00. Sensible to ask the price as #1 suggests or if you speak Portuguese negotiate one but overall drivers are honest enough. If they ask a route specify 'pela lagoa' as opposed to 'pela praia' or you will get the long, scenic route.

You will have a great time. Yes, on reason to pre book. Indeed, if you don't have much luggage one easy thing we have done is to head to the arrivals drop off area and simply flag one that is just letting off some passengers.

We pre-booked on the way there at one of the terminals and simply hailed a cab from our hotel on the way back to the hotel. It was quite a price difference but that said, it was our first time there and provided us with the ease of using our credit card as we didn't have that much local currency yet. We just wanted to be at the hotel and on the beach ASAP.

Rio was a delight. I was there in the off season, their winter which is nothing like a Canadian winter!
