My husband and I will be in Argentina in August for about 10 days. Our "must sees" are Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls. We'd love to do a road trip between them to see more of the rural areas, but I have some concerns that I'm hoping someone here can help with:
1. The distance is too far so we'll either fly one way or take the overnight bus. However, there is a huge penalty for a one way car rental. Any o ther ideas?
2. From what I have read so far, the really spectacular scenery seems to be more in the northwest and south (obviously in Patagonia!). Is the region between BA and the Falls also worth visiting?
Other suggestions on what we can do for a road trip? Another thought was to do a few days round trip road trip somewhere near BA, then just fly to/from the Falls to save time.

You can do several steps on your way from BA to Iguazu Falls. Here are some examples:
- Predelta National Park
- Wonderful Sierra de las Quijadas National Park
- Iberá Wetlands (second-largest wetlands in the world)
- Saltos del Moconá (Uruguay border)
- San Ignacio Miní (best preserved ruins - World Heritage Site by the UNESCO)
Having said that, I highly recommend you to go to the Salta Province (by flight?) to discover its unique sceneries!

Hi MunichB. We were in Argentina a few years ago and spent a lot of time on overnight buses, and found them a great way to travel. They are extremely comfortable especially if you travel Ejecutivo class which is well worth the small extra cost and is still vastly cheaper than airfares in Argentina. Overnight travel means that the travel time doesn't eat into your vacation time.
Renting a car in Salta and driving a circuit of the North West was a highlight of our RTW trip and I am planning to return in August to repeat the experience! 5 or 6 days is a good amount of time for the trip but I guess it could be done in less. We got the bus from Salta to Iguazu which took around 20 hours as there was no alternative but I understand that there are now direct flight that operate but only on certain days of the week.
For car hire in Salta we used Hertz and the office there was really helpful.

Hi, a road trip between BA and Iguazu would give you a gorgeous opportunity to see this beautiful country side. Half way there you should stop at the Ibera Marshlands, "Esteros del Ibera", and my suggestion is that you spend 2 days at Rincon del Socorro.
This trip would cost aprox USD1600 with a driver in a van. (Rincon del Socorro not included). I then suggest you fly from Iguazu to Salta direct and rent a small 2 door car and do all the typical. If you need details on this i have many to suggest.
