Hello!
I am planning a trip from Rio to Buenos Aires in September with my boyfriend.
We want to include Iguaza Falls, Salta and Mendoza in between the two cities. We have almost 4 weeks but very limited amount of money (we are 20 year old students!) but want to include all the best bits that we can.
Can anyone else that has travelled on a budget give us advice on the best way of doing this? I have heard the buses are excellent from place to place, but in one city are there good bus links eg from Salta to Purmamarca?
Any critiques on the itinerary would be welcomed too! What are the best bits to do on each area?
Thanks.

Hi Jade,
We travelled in Argentina for several months on a budget (with occasional splurges). Best places for cheap accomodation we found on www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com
Travelling by bus long distance is easy and the cheapest way to get about by a long way. Companies like Andesmar, Via Bariloche etc provide an excellent service.
Local buses are fine to but the best way to see Salta and the NW is to rent a car. It can be done by bus, but there is such a lot to see en-route that I think you may miss out on a lot. Having said that we did pick up a hitchhiker or two along the way (but wouldn't recommend that!).
Iguazu is great and a must see, as is Salta. I wasn't that taken with Mendoza but loved BA, Patagonia and the argentine Lake District and Peninsula Valdez (for the Whales).
