anyone stayed at Alta Piazza in Buenos Aries?
Have read many good reviews of this apartment-hotel and it has a one BR suite truly separated from the rest of the apt (as opposed to a studio), helpful staff who speak English, etc. But the google maps don't show much in the way of restaurants in walking distance, which is what we really prefer at night. It's very near the public hospital General de Agudos. I know taxis are inexpensive; it's just that we enjoy walking at night. Wondered if anyone has stayed here and can offer advice? Couldn't find a one BR in Palermo that met our needs. Thanks!

Oh I know exactly where that is ! lol ... it is a nice spot .
To the right are the parks, massive beautiful parks and the big street Libertador and .. ou can walk to Palermo from there ..
I lived just a few blocks from there , we passed it all the time.
We bought paint at the paint store on the corner.lol
There is a Starbucks around there too but really, BA coffee is so good.
You can walk around there at night unless things have changed drastically since we moved.
There is a Chinese restaurant we used to go to all the time.
There are cafes and shops and restaurants, people walk all over so you won't be alone or feel weird. And if you are not comfortable, just flag a taxi.
Have fun !

And about that hospital. For a very long time, I thought that hospital was an empty ruin. But it is a public hospital. There are walls around it and it is not an eyesore but you don't want to go there.
It would have no bearing on your location though, that is a very nice area and a really good spot to stay ..

Scarlett, thought I had replied to thank you for your feedback but I see I didn't. Better late than never.
Ironically, I have ended up in hospitals on several trips, so I now do some research beforehand to try and get a feel for what's nearby vs. where I'd prefer to be if I have to. I suspected that the public hospitals there were not where I'd want to be,and looks like you confirmed it.
Much more fun to talk about sightseeing and ice cream than hospitals!

Scarlett, thanks for the recommendation, and I hope I don't need it!
Nobody answered my question about taking the fast ferry to Colonia del Sacramento... I wondered how far in advance it needed to be reserved (e.g., a few days in advance, or several weeks in advance). What do you think?

When my son was visiting, he went to the office and bought the tickets the day before .. it is in Recoleta and I am blank on which street.
I can see the street in my minds eye lol but not the name !!
Summer weekends are very busy, week days a bit better ..
What do I think ? I think I should be there and not here in NY

Scarlett, both you and avrooster said weekends can be really busy, so we'll avoid that if possible. I had seen the buquebus link you sent, which was great the way the photo was labelled. I had not been aware of seacat ferries but when I went to that site and picked a date, it did not show me times or prices. At any rate, I'll wait til we're there to do anything. Thanks again.
