I have been reading my guide books and several of them mention the Cuevas de Las Manos as one of the premier attractions of Argentina. However, they don't really say how one can get there unless driving on rte. 40. Anyone know anything about this cave? We are quite interested in prehistoric rock art and really all things prehistoric so would be interested in seeing if this cave or others that you know of could be added to our (already full) itinerary. I would really like to hear from someone who has gone there, but any hearsay would be interesting, too! Thanks for any help that you can give me.

If you're going to Punta Arenas they have a replica in the Salesian Museum. That's a pretty good Museum btw.
It was pretty cool as far as the replica but I don't know how representative it is of the site. If you google you can find pics of the rock art.
Thanks, mlgb, for the information. I think it must be quite difficult to get to the site unless you are driving. A replica, although not my first choice, would be better than nothing. Don't know if we're getting to Punta Arenas at this point. I want to see the right whales and we can't go everywhere, unfortunately.
