Going to Brazil on business in October. Will be in Sao Paulo and Brasilia over the course of a week. Would like to tack on 2-3 days to see some sites in Brazil while I am there. Was thinking of either flying from Sao Paulo to Igaussu Falls or Rio to spend a few days. Rio seems doable in that flights are inexpensive, frequent and short. Iguassu Falls is farther afield so not sure if it would be worth trying unless I had more time. Appreciate any thoughts or perspectives....

Iguacu can be seen in about 2 half days and one full. Flights may not be so pricey at the time you are planning to be here. Check GOL and TAM as the main carriers from S.P. The falls are spectacular.
If you are in Brasilia, you could choose to see a couple of the most charming Colonial mountain towns in Minas Gerais (Ouro Preto, Tiradentes) flying into Belo Horizonte, a short flight. Ouro Preto is about 2 hours by bus.
From Brasilia, it is only a short and re;atively inexpensive flight to Salvador to explore the Colonial architecture and unique African based culture. The informational site www.bahia-online.net is a good starting point to get an idea of what to do, see and hear there.
And of course, Rio seems to be the iconic destination for most foreign tourists. Take a look at the info on www.ipanema.com for hints on what to do, see and hear. You can also take the bus from S.P. to Rio, including hte comfortable overnight option.
