I have begun a TR about our 6th trip to Buenos Aires and first week in our apartment here:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g312741i979-Buenos_Aires_Capital_Federal_District.html
NOTE: AV Rooster, whom we know as an important poster here, was - and is - a wonderful Porteño amigo who has helped us in so many ways. He and his lovely wife, T, are among those whose friendship we value highly in Argentina.
My only complaint: he wouldn't let me order 'egg salad'

Marnie is SO nice I'm afraid we Fodorites will have to forgive her for only posting her report as a link to another forum. Maybe she'll post the next chapter here first and post a link to it on the other forum? I don't think so....
I'm present in Marnie's great report, but she only calls me "a friend", because the overzealous mods from the forum where she has just been named DE delete any posts in which the infamous AVRooster is mentioned.
How's THAT for "Free speech on the Net"?
Since almost no one will understand the "egg salad" reference, this is what she is joking about: http://www.fodors.com/community/south-america/bsas-beware-of-the-offer-you-cant-refuse.cfm
I'm writing a very long report on the restaurant we went to, called "Parrilla Marucha" and located in Núñez, near Belgrano.
Have a great time in our town.
How nice, Marnie, that you are back in BA. I hope it is cooler than Santiago.

Oh, I just read the whole egg salad thread! Takes all sorts of cards to make a deck.
Huentetu hola,
Your posts of several years ago, and more recently, have been very helpful and interesting to read. I don't think it's much cooler here than anyplace but H...... I love it - but I have air conditioning. When will you be coming back to BsAs ?
Unfortunately not any time soon. We were over in SMAndes last year but DH's health is very bad, so no trips at the moment.
Well avrooster, you're not the only one. And, although Marnie may deserve her designation, that is a place where folks who've visited a destination once for a week get the desiganation because of politics, or even folks who get all their posted info online instead of by personal experience. :-0 Free speech indeed. Lots of bad/misleading info.
Marnie certainly more than deserves her designation, but that doesn't mean I have to like the way they do things in "the other place".
And I got banned for saying so. LOL!!!
Hi There. Loved your trip report on TA and was hoping for some advice re: currency exchange rates. I've read a lot about this topic on TA and read up on xoom.com - are they legitimate? I emailed the hotel where we'll be staying about getting the better exchange rate and they seem to be steering me away from this option for "security reasons". Is this practice illegal or unsafe? Another web resource suggested I go to calle florida to get the best deal. It will really make our stay better if we can get 7-7.5 instead of the official 4.98 rate. Can you give me the 411 on this?
It depends on how long you plan to stay and/or how much you plan to spend.
Don't you feel getting roughly 30% off everything would make your stay better?
You can see the math in a restaurant report I have just sent to the top for you.
Have a great time in our country.
BTW, DE Marnie answered your question on TA.
Yea, Marnie -- why r we 2nd class citizens on Fodors???
Marine -any chance you could post your TR here as well? I would love to read it but for a number of reason, I rarely visit the other place...
Marnie has posted the first part of her TR here, as a link to the "other place".
It is this thread's OP.
She hasn't yet posted a second chapter, here or anywhere else.
We are waiting anxiously. LOL!!!
BTW, crellston, it is Marnie, not "Marine". LOL!!!
For some reason or other, I am unable to "see" her as a Marine. Maybe in her next life? LOL!!
Now, wait a minute. DH and I were sailors (38 ft. Moody named Windchime)on the Chesapeake Bay for many years - full disclosure, I was more the Galley Wench and Ballast, but still.....'not a marine' humph! LOL.
This is the essence of what I wrote on TA, in response to the question posted by Viequesguy:
The concierge at your hotel is unfamiliar with XOOM because it is only for individuals with US bank accounts. If you have a US bank account, then, IMO, XOOM is your best option for getting a good exchange rate - totally legally and in a relatively safe neighborhood. One should take care wherever money is distributed - but the XOOM (More) on Libertad is a pretty nice area.
However, Unless you will be in Argentina for a substantial period of time, then the difference is not taking any chances.....XOOM or exchange with your hotel or bank is safest.
~Marnie (former mariner)
Per above: The difference is not worth taking any chances....(this is, naturally, my opinion).
Marnie, not marine!! You mean this screen name is not a cover for Demi Moore, the star of GI Jane?? Yet another illusion shattered!!
oh, marnie could kick GI Jane's butt...
Thank you, Dona. Always there when I need you.
Ja Ja Crellston!
Oh it's so good to be reading this! Hello friends . . Wish I was there !
Now to go and read your trip report and also the egg salad story .
Enjoy your stay .. It sounds like you are, already
Muchas Gracias, Kodi. I sent you a private e note.
Sixth trip back..? Wow, that is great. I like to say that for a city that wants to establish itself on the tourism map, whats important is not that visitors will come, but that they will return. In your case, Buenos Aires seems to have done something correctly !!!
Yes indeed !
Marnie, I hope you receivedy reply .
Sr_malbec, I've been twice and can't wait to return .
