2-3 days in Arequipa. Suggestions?
I'll be in Arequipa for 3 days. Any suggestions on things to do. I was looking into one of the colca canyon tours (2 day, 1 night). I haven't come across many reviews on these.....so don't know if it offers any advantages over a DIY trip to places around Arequipa.
What travel options are best from Arequipa to Puno? Any bus services?

There are plenty of buses between Arequipa and Puno see http://www.andeantravelweb.com/peru/...uipa.html#puno . I think we used Cruz del Sur
http://www.cruzdelsur.com.pe/inicio_2.php
for the trip from Puno to Arequipa which was very comfortable for the 5 hour trip (although the driver was a lunatic!). I am pretty sure that both ways teh buses arrive in the dark so it might be advisable to arrange with you hostal to collect you from the station in Puno which is some way from the town and teh taxi drivers where all to ready to scam us when we arrived in Puno.
Arequipa its self is a lovely town with great architecture. Can't help with side trips from Arequipa as there was fiesta on at the time we were there with teams from all over Peru competing so we barely left the town. http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog...7320/tpod.html
Don't miss Santa Catalina convent you can easily spend half a day there :

We did a 2 day 1 night tour to Colca Canyon and it was great. Don't normally do tours, but this seemed like the easiest and best way for seeing Colca Canyon. We got it thru the hotel we stayed at but there are lots of places in town that arrange them. We went in a small van with maybe 15-20 people and a great guide.
