1 Year South America trip. Volunteering, location advice

Jump to last reply

I just stumbled upon the Fodor's website this morning. It was great to see posts others have started about places they have visited in South America.

I will be travelling to SA in November of 2013, I have already purchased my ticket and I am researching as much as I can to find all the places I wish to visit.

My primary goal is to volunteer in any kind of way, orphanages, ecological, teaching etc. I live in Australia and love to travel. I have met many people from SA and I love them, great people and good friends. I love the outdoors.

I want to travel as cheaply as possible to see as much as possible and spend enough time volunteering that I will be of some help.

I will be starting in Buenos Aires, Argentina and working through to Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil.

I am yet to plan my route and I am looking for ideas on places I should go. I don't mind roughing it and camping etc. If you have any advice on volunteer programs that do not charge through the roof it would be a great help. I would really like to get in deeper then the general touristy things.. I want to get to know South America and it's people. I want to meet the tribes of the land and see there way of life and learn how they have lived to love and respect there lands.

I was originally going to spend a year in Ecuador volunteering so I have everything there organised. I am really unsure where to start in the other countries!! I am having trouble finding volunteer organisations that will charge a max of $500 per month.

it's all quite confusing where to start really!! right now I am selling through all the things I don't need! I have started Spanish lessons and I am reading what I can about travel and how I will not spend too much.

I have started a blog, I want to record my trip plannings then the travels themselves. To help others with their trips. Please take a look if you have a chance, I'm not the best writer and only have a few posts so far. http://brendensadventures.wordpress.com/

at this stage any help is greatly appreciated!

thank you,

Brenden
